Squirrels

Our Squirrels meet on a Monday at 5-6 pm.

Ages

We offer Scouting for four to six year olds called Squirrels, to help young people gain skills for life at a time when it matters most and where it’s most needed.

About Squirrels

Squirrels are the first and youngest section in the Scouting family. They are recognised by their red sweatshirts.

During weekly meetings, activities are based most importantly around having fun and making friends.  Squirrels is uniquely based on story-telling and all activities start with a story to excite and ignite imaginations. Whilst we do different things each week, generally activities will include making things, outdoor activities, singing, playing games, going out on visits, investigating nature, listening to stories and learning how to be safe.

Activities

When you join our Squirrels Drey, you’ll be introduced to lots of new activities, people and things. From your very first day at Squirrels to your last day at Explorers, being a Scout is all about trying new things. You can work towards as many badges as you like, at your own pace.

The one-hour sessions are a brilliant opportunity for young people to take their first step into being part of Scouts, and help everyone get ready for the adventure of school too.

Each award is packed with awe and awesome, perfect for anyone who’s ever asked ‘Why?’ (or ‘Why not?’). You’ll think about what makes you unique and learn to be the best friend you can be, enjoy your first campfire and meet some new people.

Eventually, it’ll be time to say goodbye to Squirrels and explore your next big adventure with Beavers.

Structure

Sessions will be packed with outdoors activities, fun, games, badges, laughter, and so much more to help our youngest members learn the skills they need for life.

Squirrels leaders

All of our leaders are trained volunteers, working to make sure Scouting is safe, inclusive and accessible. Some lead the Drey week in and week out. Others visit occasionally to help run a session or drop in to share their skills. No matter how much time you have to spare, find out about volunteering on your own terms.
